Another sane one: ’66 Austin-Healey 3000 MK II
This is a nice big Healey with a 45,000 original miles. It is somewhat unfortunate that it is painted in a non-original color but it is attractive. The seller says it is due for another respray soon so a return to British Racing Green (we assume) can be made. But the good outweighs the bad in our humble opinion. The interior is original to the car and you can’t get that Ambla Vinyl material anymore nor can you recreate the patina. The top and tonneau are original to the car too. Don’t be afraid of being drummed out of the Healey Club until then. They should applaud you for your keen eye. The Healey was serviced in a shop run by a Pebble Beach judge. The seller tells us that person has gone over the car and discovered no rust, bondo or body damage. We like the understated painted wires too. It sounds like it is fully sorted and ready to go for a “reasonable” $45,000 asking price. Click here for the listing.
It’s really just a below-average “driver”. The needed repaint will precipitate a full restoration, or at least it should. Shame about the cheesy metallic rendition of BRG. At $45k it’s fully priced and would be very lucky to reach that figure at an auction. If $45k is all the budget will allow, better to buy the world’s nicest TR6 and pocket the other $20k.
