Nice example to start with: ’64 Mercedes-Benz 220S
We have a good eye for these Fintail sedans and this one looks like it is worth a look. They tell us in the listing that it is a 1-owner car and that it is fully serviced and ready to go. We know from experience that they might think it runs okay and it might scoot down the road but it is getting it reliable and road worthy that can get expensive. Rebuilding any old Mercedes-Benz is an expensive endeavor. If you like to get your parts fast, you can go to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center. They have everything and ship the same day.
You’ll pay for the privilege but there are other resources including a robust used parts network. This is in a great original color and would make a nice back-up car to our own 230S Rally Car. It too is 4-speed on the column and you really do get used to it quickly. The interior is certainly in need of refurbishing as it appears to be the optional leather. The M-B Tex we have is infinitely more durable. Thankfully, kits are available to go original or Tex. The asking price is $11,000 and that wouldn’t be too awful if there were a ton of recent receipts for a whole host of repairs. If not, negotiate hard and join the ranks of loyal Fintail owners.
