We are fortunate to have a very nice 4.7 liter Maserati Mexico on offer from one of our favorite sellers. The Mexico is fitted from the factory with the 4.7 liter engine and Borrani wire wheels and that makes this one of the desirable early cars. Maseratis have been playing second fiddle to Ferraris for years now. Although we can understand the allure of a 12 cylinder Ferrari we can’t fully understand why the valuation gap is so big. Here we have a beautiful Frua bodied Mistral with a songstress of a double overhead can straight 6, double-plug engine that will probably sell for less than Ferraris least valuable V12 (365GT 2+2). Since early 911s have become so hot lately, everyone seems to be dragging out a derelict from their garage and asking a fortune for it. Well, this isn’t one of them. If you prefer a beautiful Jaguar that is easier to live with than an early Jag, the Series II E-types are the cars you should look at. US Government regulations caused the loss of the trademark covered headlamps, forced the repositioning of the tail lights, toggle switches were abandoned and one carburetor. But Jaguar took the opportunity to make it a little bit better while they dealt with the new rules. Therefore the Series II cars were cured of one of the E-types biggest problems and that is overheating. Jaguar enlarged the air intake and installed some cooling fans effectively taking care of the issue.

We understand that these are not cherished Porsches. The 1.8 liter cars weren’t so hot but the 2.0 liter cars were better. Not hugely better but better. Of course, the 914-6 is a whole other enchilada. The stats of a 914 are pretty impressive. Nice mid-engine chassis, German build quality, roomy interior, great brakes, precise steering and balanced handling all add up to a nifty little sports car.
