Monte material: ’66 Ford Mustang GT
We’ve had this next project fantasy car in our heads because that is what car people do. We finish one project and move on to the next. Since we have no immediate plans to part with our beloved (and very popular) Mercedes 230S, this project is truly a fantasy. But if we write about it often enough maybe someone will actually challenge us to build it. And what is it? It is an Alan Mann Racing prepared Mustang Notchback rally car tribute. Just like the cars that competed in Europe during the ’60s. This Mustang we feature here is probably too nice but maybe not. After all, the big mechanical bits have been attended to already. We’ll have to dumb it down a bit and get rid of the external vestiges of the GT package. What you replace them with are black steel wheels with big fat rubber. Then you do large round rally lights, hood pins, yada, yada, yada. What it does have is a 289cid V8 and a factory 4-speed. And yes, it is Wimbledon white. The asking price is $25,000.
