More better: ’65 Austin-Healey MK III
We’ve had a run on big Healeys lately and we think that is a good thing. Big Healeys are sort of in the middle between top of the heap Triumphs and driver-quality Jaguar XKEs. Of course, there are exceptions to everything so before we are called amateurs we know any Healey 100S is worth a ton more than a driver quality XKE. The big Healey is such a nice car. The Mark III like today’s find, is very civilized with roll-up windows, a top attached to a frame and a wood dash. But then you are thrust back to the stone age with a non-synchromesh 1st gear. But Donald Healey tried to make amends with Overdrive as standard equipment effectively making it a 6-speed transmission. We like today’s car because the interior is very original in Ambla material. The rest of the car has a lived-in look we appreciate in a Healey. And yes, it has some exterior flaws in all the usual places. Get over it. You’ll love being in an original interior because the Healeys that were restored for like $100 grand don’t have that. This one has painted wires too and that is our choice particularly for an Ivory car. The seller has owned this one for 14 years and that is a long time in the vintage car world. It is an auction that you should participate in if you have an interest in a Healey. Click here for the listing.
