Ultra Oval: ’55 Volkswagen
Who doesn’t love an early Beetle. It is a little easier to determine the early cars by the size and shape of the rear windows. VW made a big deal about promoting all of the changes or improvements in a Beetle from year to year and most of them you couldn’t see with the naked eye. What we have today is an early 1955 oval with rare Ultra Maroon color. This is a body-off restoration, and the seller says to top-notch quality. The seller bought the car out of California so it was a very solid and dry car, with all its original sheet metal and never been hit front or rear. A Beetle of this vintage, with all original bodywork, is quite rare. The seller is asking $32,800 for it and that might sound astounding to you right off. But consider the work involved in getting anything from 1955 to look as good as this. And the Beetle, although they made millions, has become collectible. At least the early small window cars have. We like it and the rare color. Thanks to Michael M. for the listing! Click here for the listing.
All that money and I don’t think that was a VW color for 55.
Ah grasshopper, we thought the same thing but alas, it was available back in the day. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/paintcodestype1.php
What a pleasure that Beetle gives me just while I’m looking at it. A great example !
