Almost perfect: ’63 Mercedes-Benz 220S Fintail
You won’t see many Finnies in Sea Green (DB 824) and in this condition. The seller tells us it has been in the same family since new until he acquired the car a short time ago. It appears to be in very good condition with nice chrome. That’s important because there is a lot of it! It has A/C that actually works but sadly perfection is eluded because it is an automatic. That doesn’t mean you should run and hide it means the person who might be interested in this Finnie has no “performance aspirations”. Not everyone does or should. After all, this car competed with Lincolns and Cadillacs in the day and they didn’t offer manual transmissions either. The interior is serviceable but incorrect. Oh, it is close to the correct color but it isn’t the wear-like-iron M-B Tex. The proper kits are available and should be part of the restoration going forward. Some say M-B Fintails are finally being recognized for the role they played in shoring up the post war strength of Mercedes-Benz. We can tell you wherever our Fintail goes, it attracts a conversation. This one is expensive and it better be perfect mechanically to be worth the $15,950 asking price. We know perfection usually means it will cost you only a few grand after you buy it. Add new seats and a restored Ivory steering wheel and you gert where we are going. Click here for the listing.
