Glacier: ’80 Mercedes-Benz 450SL
You’ll see these R107 model Mercedes-Benz convertibles here on Mint quite often. We know them well and they represent the best of Mercedes engineering and build quality. This is one of the longest running production models for Mercedes so it isn’t going to be the next Pagoda or Gullwing but they represent a great value for someone who wants the joy of a vintage car without the headaches. Well, not necessarily without headaches. All old cars are always up to something, it is just a matter of time. But when it is running well, the 450SL (and it will almost all of the time) it will feel like a bank vault and look like a million bucks. The 450SL’s engine is one of the better ones installed in the R107 over the course of production. If you are looking for a fair weather cruiser, why spend the $160,000 it will take to get a new one. Buy this for probably the high $20s or low $30s and enjoy the heck out of it. It has a mere 36,000 miles on it making it virtually a new car. The interior looks splendid with minimal patina evident on the leather seats. But that’s a good thing. It shows it was cared for by both of its owners. The seller tells us the paint is original and we think it is called Glacier White but that could be from another car company. Click here for the listing.
