Elegant: ’69 Rolls-Royce
We really enjoy watching the original British Top Gear on BBC. There was travel special a year or so ago where the 3 hosts (Clarkson, Hammond and May) could choose a car to take across India all the way to the Himalayas. There was a strict budget mind you. Richard Hammond selected a Rolls-Royce like today’s find. Jeremy Clarkson scoffed at the choice and offered this: “If a Rolls-Royce broke down in the factory, they wouldn’t know how to fix it”. Well the Rolls performed brilliantly and the A/C would have worked to the end except Clarkson and May were jealous and disabled it during the night. This isn’t an acquisition to undertake without careful thought and inspection. These are very expensive cars to maintain. A reserve for the inevitable mechanical work should be kept in place. If you live in an area where there is no mechanical support – a R-R specialist – maybe you should consider something else. Owning a classic is supposed to be fun and enjoyed and not be burdened by inconvenience. Now today’s find appears to be kept like a Rolls-Royce should. The interior is just beautiful. It looks like a place to sit, relax and enjoy a great cognac while reading the Financial Times. You have a driver of course, or the cognac is out of the question. So is reading a newspaper. The seller is a reputable R-R specialist and states the car was fully serviced recently. It has an undocumented 77,000 miles but it probably is accurate if the pictures are accurate. One $15,000 quality respray in these unusual colors makes a flashy statement but works on a Rolls. The asking price is $31,500. Not inexpensive for a ’69 Roller but considering this example, a lesser car might cost you more in the long run. Click here for the listing.
