What’s happening?: ’86 Porsche 930 Turbo
Collectors and enthusiasts have long recognized the coolness of a good Porsche 930 Turbo. But like BAM! Prices for good examples of air-cooled Turbos have gone ballistic. We know of a very desirable 3.6 liter ’94 selling for well over $100,000 and we are sure there are more. Today’s find is a Euro-spec car Federalized in ’88 by a Porsche dealer for the second owner. According to the listing it has passed California Smog every year except the one that said “it’s time for a rebuild.” That rebuild was performed at Andial Porsche a well-known entity. It has covered only 3,000 miles since. We like the relatively unusual color combination that matches the Certificate of Authenticity. The current owner has only had the car a year and a few months. During that time, the exterior was refreshed without repainting, the interior revitalized and all of the little nits repaired. Always wonder why some people endure their cars inoperative or broken bits only to fix everything to sell it. Of course they are the group of nicer sellers than the people who say they have fixed everything but haven’t. Now this one is available for $79,000. That number is right at the Hagerty Condition 2 number. Thanks to Jonathan A. for the listing! Click here for the listing.
Given the silly place where 930 prices are, this could be a bit of a bargain. I think the colors are great although I typically prefer a little more contrast between paint and upholstery. I would hope the boys at Andial did a little magic on the engine while they were about the rebuild….head work, some work on the turbo, etc. I think I’d insist on seeing the federalization approval papers. The last thing you want is a letter from FedGov asking you to prove that the car is here legally. It can happen, state registration and smog compliance notwithstanding.
