Truth is: ’72 Mercedes-Benz 350SL
The truth is – a US specification 350SL is really a 450SL or better said, it is powered by the larger engine. The same car became the 450SL the following model year. These early R107 SLs are coming on strong but mostly the very early, small bumper cars like today’s or the very last ’89 560SL version. We have some ownership experience with these and they are built like little elegant tanks. They aren’t very aggressive handlers nor do they do anything in a hurry, but you feel good driving one. Today’s car came to California by way of Arizona so it should be very dry as stated by the seller. It is brown with Cognac interior (or just tan).It comes with a factory hard top finished in gold. We would make an appointment with the body shop right away to fix that. The wheel covers need to be refinished in the body color while you are at it. The interior looks good but the seats were recovered and they lost some of their original looking shape in the process. It has a modern radio that should be replaced with a Becker and the cup holders are a bit out-of-place. Truth is, if the install isn’t awful, we might leave that. The seller’s have been around awhile and seem to come up with cool stuff that doesn’t last long on the market. They are asking $11,000. If it checks out mechanically, that could be a nice buy.
