Nader’s folly: ’66 Chevrolet Corvair
The Corvair was potentially one of the most interesting cars America ever produced. If you know anything about the American automobile industry, you know what happened to the Corvair. Shall we simply mention the name Ralph Nader to refresh your memory? Let’s say Ralph was right about the early cars. They were a bit squirrely but the second generation cars were pretty decent handlers. Maybe not perfect right out of the box but close. Close enough to attract the tuning expertise of the legendary John Fitch who made these into Corvair Sprints and the basis for his ill-fated Phoenix. Today’s Corvair is a ’66 in restored condition. It has a rebuilt engine and a 4-speed manual. The seller added a set of American Racing Torque Thrusts to add to the cool factor. The current owner has owned it for 19 years. We might do a few things differently but this is a good start. The asking price is $12,500. Click here for the listing.
