The Airstream Company was the only post WW II survivor of the travel trailer industry. It was founded by Wally Byam in the 1920s in Los Angeles. Wally essentially bought a failing trailer company whose design had the entry door in the front. Wally moved it to the side creating a more efficient aerodynamic shape. The silvery sausages were a hit. Although the company still exists, it is the vintage Airstream that has the most loyal following although contemporary owners are active too. And these loyalists aren’t necessarily trekkers. We know an architect that converted his Baby into a pool house. Ralph Lauren designed a few too. We at Mint also have an affection for the Airstream.
