Remember the Motorama? We do. Detroit fans waited eagerly to see what GM had to offer that model year. Many of the Motorama cars were show cars that rocked our world with visions of bubble-top cars with rocket-shaped bodies and jet aircraft tail fins. What fun. We like the iconic ’57 Chevrolet Bel Air. And by iconic we mean when you think of drive-in hamburger joints or cruising down Woodward Avenue, you can picture a ’57 in your head. We had a superb original black, ’57 a few weeks ago. It had original paint and interior and was drop dead wonderful. We came across this one on Craigslist and although it is on the other end of the “original ” spectrum, we thought it was kind of neat. Conserve or restore? We say conserve but please let us buy some seat covers! This is the 1st of 2 old work horses. It seemed appropriate for us to feature some old affordable trucks now that Spring is in the air. Where we are in Northwest Connecticut, people are crazy for these things. We didn’t pick just any truck we picked an original C10 that we think will clean up real nice. It has been in storage for sometime and it still wears bias-ply tires. The ’57 is an automobile icon probably without peer. Its tail fins aim skyward, like battleship guns. It is as American as Donald Trump. Now its success was not only based on styling, it was also the first year for the venerable 283 V-8. This engine came in lots of flavors all the way up to fuelies.
