They are uber-luxurious, fast and competent plus they aren’t too expensive to buy although they are to repair. 87 928 5 speed intThe most desirable are the rare last bunch from ’93-’95 called the GTS. Prices reflect that too. The real sweet spot are the cars from ’87-’89 and amongst those, the 5-speed. So we found a low mileage 5-speed in beautiful condition and guess what? We have a thing for a good 928S. If you are going to have a thing for one, it better be a good one and that would be a well cared for example with no differed maintenance issues. They are still striking when you see one on the road even by today’s design standards. The interiors are sumptuous like a good high-speed GT. It even has somewhat useable rear seats for the youngsters in your family. Certainly more accommodating than a 911’s rear seats. These are powered by big Porsche V8s. And the ’85 happens to be a pretty decent year (although not as good as an S4 however).  Read More

The GT was born out of necessity in the ’50s. Well, necessity for wealthy European folks who wanted to travel great distances in comfort on the weekends or holidays. Cars made by Ferrari, Maserati, Mercedes and others, filled the niche with luxurious cruisers capable of sustained high speeds. And of course, they didn’t want to be embarrassed when they pulled up in front of the Hotel d’Paris in Monaco, so the GT car had to be gorgeous and exclusive. Fast forward to the mid-70s. Porsche was successful with the 911 but they wanted to appeal to the client who demanded a bit more refinement, more pace and more luxury.
