Flat screen: ’62 Austin-Healey 300 MKII
We picked this Healey out of the Inbox because we thought it represented a good opportunity to buy a decent big Healey for not ridiculous money. We aren’t sneezing at almost $40 grand but there are so many Healeys going for way more because they were over restored. Donald Healey himself will tell you that these restored cars are way better than they were when they were new. A common occurrence in today’s collector world. We know how to do things better than they did back then. We believe you don’t have to spend that much to enjoy a big Healey. This one, for example, isn’t perfect and needs a few things. We don’t like the interior or the carpets but so what. And the driver’s door certainly needs to be put right. But the seller has priced it accordingly and has put a lot of effort into making this a decent car. It started off as a solid car so we don’t have to worry too much about the quality of rust repair. It is a matching numbers car and refinished in the original color of Healey Blue. He even saved the side curtains and repaired the rubber seals. We like the flat windscreen, side curtain cars a lot. The seller says they only made this version of the big Healey for 15 months and although that may be true (too lazy to look it up right now), it doesn’t make it more valuable in our opinion. In fact, some say the triple carbs aren’t as good as the twin carbs on the later cars. Click here for the listing.
