The truth is – a US specification 350SL is really a 450SL or better said, it is powered by the larger engine. The same car became the 450SL the following model year. These early R107 SLs are coming on strong but mostly the very early, small bumper cars like today’s or the very last ’89 560SL version. We have some ownership experience with these and they are built like little elegant tanks. They aren’t very aggressive handlers nor do they do anything in a hurry, but you feel good driving one.
