Salvage: ’73 Alfa Romeo GTV
We are always pleased to find a beautiful GTV to share with our readers. This is a 5-year old restoration of a California car. It is finished in a somewhat rare Rare Gaillo Ocra and has black interior that we are told is leather. That would be an upgrade although we believe you could special order leather on a GTV at some point in time. This example has 55,000 miles and looks just terrific. The only thing we see that is glaring isn’t so important: the windshield trim is missing. Not a hard fix at all.We also like that the owner stayed with the SPICA injection system. They are expensive to rebuild but work well when dialed in. Most forsake the system for Webers or Dell’Ortos and label Spica “diabolical”. The car sits on a beautiful set of Chromodoras. That is all the good stuff. Here we go into the less good. It has a slow second gear synchro and that is more the norm then a defect. Our GTV was one of the lucky ones and had a perfect second but our Spider had the affliction. We double-clutch or skip it if we can. The seller has a good gearbox for $200 and we would probably take it along with the car. The issue that will plague this car forever is the Salvage Title. If it were a 10-year-old Corvette, it would be a problem. But it is a classic car and so many classics have been resurrected from a shell that this shouldn’t matter. Unless the reason for the scarlet letter is because it was t-boned by a garbage truck. Your thoughts on that are welcome. Let’s thank Michael M. for the submission. Click here for the listing.
I want to like this one, but there’s a few red flags. Isn’t the trunk lid fit generally much better than what’s on display here?
If you look under the hood closely you will notice this car has had a color change. Also, look at the ID plate between the dash and the windshield that should be painted Gaillo Ocra at the factory too.
With a salvage title, you can only get liability insurance. Have an accident and all the repairs are yours.
