Time capsule: ’65 Sunbeam Tiger
Tigers are interesting. The soaring values of the Cobra haven’t helped the valuation of the Tiger and it still remains in the shadows. The Tiger has some serious roots (no pun) with guys like Ken Miles involved in the project. The Tiger was reasonably successful in improving the Sunbeam brand but not to a huge degree. Production ceased after 7,000 units when Chrysler purchased parent company Rootes. Can’t sell a Chrysler with a Ford engine in it.It probably isn’t as successful a transplant as the Cobra but they are fairly rare. Finding a real one and not a clone has become an art too. So finding an original one in unmolested condition like today’s Tiger is pretty neat. It needs lots of work but it will be your work at the quality level you desire. Today’s car has so many original parts rarely seen today. We are referring to the little things that make aficionados go bonkers like battery cable ends, original tags on the intake, carburetors and the Toploader. The body and interior need work but the body appears to be pretty solid. It hasn’t run in some time so that will have to be addressed too. For $22,000, it still might be a good place to start. just when I think I have my “dream list” narrowed down and well organized, a post like this comes along. What an interesting project! enough rough edges to correct without taking forever. What a great project car on so many levels!
