Light Weight: ’70 Lotus Elan S4
When you hear Lotus, you think of all of the innovation Colin Chapman brought to the art of sports car manufacturing. It became the essential British Sports Car of the ’60s. Light weight, a reasonably stiff backbone chassis, a willing twin-cam engine and a perfectly tuned suspension translated into loads of fun…if you were less than 6 feet tall. Elans are pretty small. At 1517 pounds it could sprint to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds. Not too shabby for a car with 110hp. Today’s Lotus is a little scruffy but you need to look past that. It has a documented engine rebuild that is well seasoned at 13,000 miles, The suspension has been gone through and that too has some miles on it. All good things. Fresh rebuilds are nice to hear but we like rebuilds that are fully sorted. The interior is original and it has the original tool kit, spare and tonneau. The factory window sticker and service records are also included. The seller is looking for $29,500. Sports Car Market Price Guide has a range of $25,000 to $47,000. Click here for the listing.
I just noticed the other comment.
I have no personal interest in the matter but is not bringing someone’s mental health into question a rather non-constructive or inappropriate comment? If one believes the price to be too high, rather than basically saying, “the guy’s crazy”, making an objective observation or expressing one’s opinion on value might be better.
An example might be something like, “the asking price seems to be out of touch with the current market based upon condition as deduced from the photos and description.
We all need to get along in this world and all have opinions so….
Super original cars are finally starting to get their due and prices are being adjusted accordingly. This one seems to be sold already anyway so it looks as though the market has spoken.
Just my humble opinion.
Love these. I owned an S4 RHD with Weber head for 10 years. It sort of defined “nimble sports car for the whole era.”
the guy’s delusional
