First at something: ’66 Matra Djet
The Djet had a very modern design with disc brakes and independent suspension with wishbones and coil springs all around. The Djet could accommodate 2 people since there was no back seat because of the mid-engine design. The car weighed only 1,323 lb. You see the 1962 Bonnet Djet was the world’s first mid-engined production road car, beating the deTomaso Vellelunga which was introduced in 1963. The car started out as the René Bonnet Djet in June 1962. The car was named Djet, because Bonnet thought the French could not pronounce the word Jet correctly. When Rene Bonnet ran into financial trouble, Matra took over. They took the opportunity to redesign the Djet making it slightly larger and more powerful including adding a Gordini option. Today’s featured Djet was sold in the US originally. We really love the looks of these and they are pretty rare around these parts. This car needs some work for a number of reasons primarily finding an appropriate original style Gordini drivetrain to replace what’s been powering this car for years. The bodies are fiberglass and we would have to evaluate that in person to arrive at a fair price estimate. Given the non-original drivetrain, you might be able to pick this one up in the low teens. Perfect cars could be $30,000. Owning this one or a restored car will be lots of fun here as they are pretty rare. Click here for the listing.
