Grease regularly: ’52 MG TD
The MG TD is an iconic British sports car of the ’50s. So at the completely other end of the spectrum from the XK150, we have this sweet little TD. The TD was essentially designed for the American market mainly because the MG TCs did so well here. The MG TD still used the 54-hp, 1,250-cc XPAG inline-four motor to reach a top speed in the mid-70 mph range. The TD was an unqualified success and 29,664 were sold in four years and that is 3X more than the TC production. More than 80% of that figure were imported to the U.S. These MGs were so much fun we are surprised to see one that has survived and accumulated only 31,500 miles. That is what we have here today. It is a 3-owner car with the current owner since 2000. We really like the subtle colors of Almond Green and Cream with Green interior. It is so refreshing from the traditional BRG, Red or White. The seller says it is fastidiously maintained and that is what a TD requires. They are like a good shotgun. They have to be cleaned and oiled after every use or they will bite you or in this case, leave you stranded. The price at $25,000 is fair if the condition is verified. Click here for the listing.
It looks like a lovely car. Of course the dash board should be covered in “Rexine” material rather than showing finished wood. 31k “original” miles? Even more “lovely” would be to see documentation for the miles. That said if they had said documentation the price would likely be double the asking…If there are no big negative discoveries on a personal inspection even with an inoperative odometer the price is fair.
