Xmas present: ’61 Pontiac Bonneville
There is no doubt that the GM bubble tops of ’61 are among the handsomest cars of the period. We are partial to the Pontiac because we think it has a nice blend between style and performance. We’ve featured a few before but they were both Venturas. This one, we are told, is a Bonneville. If you are a racing snob and you think drivers should have names like Ludovico, Colin or Hans, I may have lost you today. Today, racing is about guys with names like Fireball, Junior, and even Tiny. It is the weekend when NASCAR kicks off the season with the classic on the beach – The Daytona 500.
We learned something new when we ran across this R107 Mercedes Roadster. There was a special order Code 904 if you really, really, really liked the color blue. We do like blue so this special 450SL appeals to us. It is a 56,000 mile example that is very original and appears to be in superb condition. The interior is immaculate and this being an early car in the long-lived R107 series, it is almost devoid of any wood treatment.
