Sorry, Sold. Really Bad Boy: ’93 Mercedes-Benz 500E
The 500E has been surfing under the radar for years. Just recently it made a list on Yahoo Auto of cars that you need to own. The M-B 500E is a freaking German hot rod in the Pontiac GTO tradition. It looks plain on the outside but watch out. The press called it “a wolf in sheep’s clothing”. How unimaginative. Try Godzilla. It is a monster with a top speed limited at 160 mph. They made 1,596 of these bombers. More appropriately Porsche made them. Yup. In a spirit of camaraderie, Porsche assembled the 500E engines for Mercedes. Today’s find isn’t one of the lowest mileage cars we’ve seen but we become accustomed to these big Benzs with 6 figures on the clock. They are just getting started. This one is a dark blue/grey color with black interior that looks almost new. It has an aftermarket stereo but the seller has the original. This era Benz is prone to cracking wire harnesses and this one has had part of it replaced already. We think there are 3 sections that are vulnerable to cracking so we would look carefully for signs of doom. Use it as a bargang chip if it needs one because when they are done they are done for good. The suspension has been dropped a little bit and the stance is just right. It has a few other little needs but they might not add up to too much money. The asking price is $17,000. A sharp negotiation is in order. Click here for the listing
