Alphabet soup: ’86 Merkur XR4Ti
One of our best customers asked us to find one of the best Merkur XR4Ti Coupes. Why, we were not sure because the Merkur is not on many lists for the most collectible cars in the world. But we did manage to find one of the lowest mileage, original Merkurs around. The buyer flew up to Canada and drove the Merkur home. Now he’s a guy who knows about great cars and he said he enjoyed every minute behind the wheel of the Merkur. So maybe there is something about these misunderstood cars that our readers need to know about? So we found another XR4Ti in rare condition. The 1st owner was a Ford Executive so it probably was his company car. It has a 5-speed, A/C (okay, it doesn’t work), rear wings, moonroof and heated seats. It has a documented 64,000 miles supported by reams of records. It looks great in black and the interior looks to be in pretty good shape. It has a few minor issues, one that the seller says will be repaired by the time the auction ends. The Merkur was unsuccessful here but has roots in Germany where they are known to build some really decent cars. This could be a fun car to play around with for not a lot of money. BTW, we’ve been on the Merkur Forum and the Facebook page and the Merkur fans are loyal and helpful. Always good to have a built-in support group. Visit the eBay auction by clicking here.
