Titans of Industry: ’93 Mercedes-Benz 600SL
We really like the R129 SLs. As luck would have it, family owns a pristine ’94 SL500 that we get to drive when we visit in Florida once a year. Even with the SL500s 315hp, power comes on effortlessly and goes on seemingly forever. Steering is heavy giving you the impression that it is indestructible. Imagine what it would be with a Mercedes-Benz V12 under the hood? Well you can if you buy today’s featured car. The 600SL R129s cost a whopping $130,000 so its owners were typically captains of industry, maybe even titans. You got another 74hp with the V12 plus some other nice things but what you get are bragging rights. The only other V12 drivers were silly enough to buy was a Ferrari that cost even more. You’re Titan because you aren’t stupid. The owners of these cars had the financial resources to take care of them but when they became used cars unfortunately differed maintenance became the rule. You see it takes a Mercedes mechanic 6X as long to perform routine stuff on the V12 than a V8. If you have a hankering for one of these, you need to find the best there is and we did that for you. Here is a 2 owner SL in red with Palomino that has covered only 24,000 miles. The owner is a Mercedes collector and it has received a lot of preventive maintenance at an authorized dealer. The asking price is $20,000 or best offer. NADA Price Guide has a range of $16,000 to $25,000. That makes this one ripe for the picking. Click here for the listing.
