Almost new: ’62 Mercedes-Benz 190SL
We have seen this 190SL before at a much higher price. Frankly, the seller is a no BS kind of guy and says right there is the listing that he can prove the extremely low mileage. That by the way is 29,902. Visual inspection of the car will be the true test of the mileage and hopefully the originality. Yes, it could be real, but it could also be a repaint and a host of other things. Trust but verify. It does look pretty neat from the few photos he provides. Not sure we like the wide whites but that is an easy fix. It has a bias-ply spare in the trunk with plenty of rubber left. A good sign perhaps? The interior looks appropriate with the correct seams. We are sure our friend Brian P. from Motoring Investments will weigh-in on this one. The asking price is $85,000 down from over $100,000 when we spotted it last. The value curve on Hagerty’s site is similar to early Porsche 911s. Almost vertical. A perfect, #1 car can be $160,000, #2, $105,000 and a lowly #3 driver at $77,500. Maybe the seller has got something we should look at after all. Click here for the listing.
It sure does not look bad. The photo shot from the right rear of the car seems to show the trailing door gap to be too big. The valve cover looks to have been painted silver. The seats and dash don’t seen to show any patina so one would assume they’ve been renewed. I wonder what the “proof” of the 29k miles is? Some folks look on the title and if it reads “actual” they claim that as proof (it is not). Let’s keep an open mind as maybe he has a stack of service records from day one with no multiple year gaps.
That said, if it is indeed 29k actual miles and there are no trouble spots it appears to be a “steal”! Wonder why it has not sold as the market his hotter than a firecracker for these!
