Princely: ’39 Daimler 4-Litre Straight Eight
We can’t resist an absolutely beautiful coach-built, pre-war saloon that is presented well. And that is the case with this Daimler Pillerless Sport Saloon with body by Vandan Plas. You will have to fly to the Principality of Monaco to see it but it will be worth the trip. British cars built in ’39 are rare because of the outbreak of WWII. That is why they only built 180 chassis the year this one was built. The listing doesn’t say how many chassis were sent to Vandan Plas for coachwork however they do state that this is one of five surviving examples. According to the records, it was originally placed in the service of the Lord Mayor of London. The Daimler had two more owners after that. The bodies are aluminum with steel wings (fenders) and we love the color selection. The interior is mostly original on this one too. The listing is very detailed and tells us all of the unique and interesting features of this model Daimler. This featured example is in excellent mechanical condition and It will do 95mph all day so it will be right at home touring the Continent or the USA. These are not rarefied, or super expensive cars even with this heritage or condition. We don’t believe it will get anywhere close to six figures. Click here for the listing.
