I was reading this month’s issue of Hemmings and there is an article declaring the ’66-’77 Ford Bronco has a “Buy”. They go on to say that there is no bad time to buy a Bronco and values will continue to rise steadily in the coming years. But that isn’t the reason to buy a Bronco. They are easy to come by in various stages of condition and parts are relatively inexpensive. A decent Bronco could cost $8,000 all the way up to an eye-popping $40,000. The Ferrari Testarossa was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1984. It essentially is a more usable version of the 512BBi Berlinetta Boxer. Ferrari accomplished making room for luggage and reducing cabin temperatures by moving the radiators to the rear of the car. And that is why the Testarossa has those massive cooling vents ahead of the rear wheels. Ferraristi call these slats cheese cutters. The Testarossa was always a good performer but it was criticized for being a bit overweight. That was rectified in ’92 with the next generation called the 512TR. Porsche introduced the new “T-5” body style in 1960, designating the model 356B. The T-5 had a flatter hood and front sheet metal, and larger, higher bumpers. The Convertible D was discontinued and replaced by the Roadster, built by Drauz. Roadster production for the 1960 model year was 2,008 units. This is another one of those classic cars that were ignored for such a long time and are now on fire. They are elegant convertibles with impeccable build-quality typical of Mercedes-Benz cars of this period. The downside of the 190SL is the somewhat anemic performance. Carlo Abarth saw an opportunity when the Fiat 600 was launched in 1955. Abarth developed a 750cc version of the 633cc engine and sold them to dealers to retrofit to stock 600s. Carlo also built complete cars in his factory for street and competition use. The best known of these were the lightweight Zagato-bodied cars. The 750 Abarth Zagato was introduced to the racing world in 1956. It was an immediate success in a variety of European events. It swept the first three places in the 750cc class at the 1957 Mille Miglia. Across the Atlantic, the 750GT, nicknamed the “Double Bubble” for the distinctive roof bumps, were successful on the U.S. circuits.
