Time capsule : ’56 Chevrolet Nomad
The Nomad’s unique design had its roots in a GM Motorama show car of the same name that was based on the Corvette. The Concept was introduced at the GM Motorama in 1954 as one of Head Stylist Harley Earl’s “dream cars”. It was a “halo” car meant bolster the full line with the prestige of the special, low volume car. The Nomad, a 2-door wagon, had some roots in the 2-door hardtops of the era. Pontiac had a version of the Nomad called the Safari. We like the ’55 Nomads a lot because they have an early Ferrari-like front grille. Everyone else in the world probably prefers the ’57 Nomad that had a slightly larger engine available than the previous model years. Today’s ’56 is pretty special because other than a respray about 20 years ago, it is very original. It has a 265cid V8 with the Power-Pac option that has a 4 barrel carb and dual exhausts. All of the glass and most of the interior are factory. This one has only 3 owners in 58 years and that too is impressive. We would definitely go back to the original wheel covers that we are told are available. The asking price is $45,500. Click here for the listing.
nothing evokes “family” more than a big station wagon from the 50’s!
Not only is the style of this wagon great, the paint scheme says “I’m cool”.
Lets pack up the kids and just go for a ride!
