Flat Floors: ’62 Jaguar XKE OTS
Do you recall what OTS means? If not, it means Open Two Seater. Some folks refer to E-Type Jaguar roadsters as dropheads. They are wrong. Well they are right and they are wrong. Anyway, this is a really nice, honest looking early car with flat floors, welded louvers and a non-synchro 1st gear. You would think a car that provided you with less space and a cranky gearbox would be worth less than one improved but you too would be wrong. Really early E-types are like gold. They have a lot going for them in the style department. The dash is aluminum and the switches are toggles. The headlights have those wonderful covers over them too. This particular car has lots of patina yet it looks like a solid example. It hails from Southern California and has had only 2 owners since new with the seller owning the car since 1968. The eBay listing says it is a great car and we would tend to think it is worth a look. The asking price is $79,000 and we say if it checks out, it is not a bad place to start negotiating. Hagerty has #1 cars at $152,000 and #3 cars at $76,000. SCM has it rated a B with 4 stars so they think it will outperform. But we aren’t buying stocks here. We are buying a beautiful Jaguar.
