Can’t Resist: ’63 Mercedes-Benz 190SL
This is the 5th 190SL we have featured on Mint. If you are a regular reader, you know that we don’t have the opportunity to see each car in person so we rely on the photos and any narrative from the seller. Sometimes we are right and sometimes not. What we do know and advise every reader, if you are serious about any car – one we have seen or not, you owe it to yourself to have a pre-purchase inspection by a firm like JewelorJalopy.com. We don’t care who you select just do it. We reiterate this point here in this featured post because this car just looks great from what we can see. It has the original window sticker so we don’t have to wait for verification from on high for information about original equipment and color.
The other additional piece of information we like is the name of the shop that restored it. If they are still around, they will be a good source of the condition of the car before the restoration. We really like the white grey color with red leather interior. The interior looks nice and it has the proper horizontal seam running across the seat bottoms. The window sticker says white walls and that what it has now. The seller is the 3rd owner of 30 years and that too says there must be records documenting the restoration. The car comes with the hard top and according to the window sticker it is a complimentary color of Arabian Grey. The seller has an asking price of $75,000 and depending on current condition it is right in the sweet spot. Contact the seller by clicking here.
I’d rather buy an early 230SL for this sort of money. I’ve had the opportunity to drive both the 190 and the Pagoda (my dad used to own a 4-speed 250SL) and the latter feels much more complete and nicer to drive. The biggest difference is of course the engine – I just love the smoothness of the Pagoda’s straight six.
