Drive it: ’66 SAAB 96 2-stroke
How lucky are we to find a second potential historic rally car in the making on the same day. This one is a 2-stroke SAAB that is said to be virtually rust-free. It has been stored for the past 8 years but the car is said to run although it needs a tune-up (so why not tune it up?). The interior needs to be redone but who cares because the buyer will hopefully install a roll cage and racing seats. Those seats come with covers. The dash is cracked too so that might be a good place for a vintage compass. It is equipped with 3 rally lights but alas they aren’t wired. Daniel Stern Lighting to the rescue!. He’ll sell you the best replacement bulbs for all the lights and show you how to wire everything up through relays. Night driving is not a joke. You need to be prepared. If you snag this one, you’ll go through a methodical refresh of all the major systems. But the entry-level is $6,500. Not too bad for the basis of a really neat car. Click here for the eBay auction.
