Classic and Sports Car Magazine published a list of the Top 10 car chases of all time. And yes, the usual suspects were included like Bullitt and The French Connection. But they forgot The Seven Ups starring Roy Scheider released in 1973 and shot in New York City. In case you have never seen it or haven’t since 1973, here it is in all its glory.

This one is hot off the presses! We just got word that a very early ’67 912 has made its way from California to Connecticut wearing only the black plates it was born with. This one we really like partly because we know the seller and partly because it has these really neat vintage wheels with some serious spinners for good measure. We have featured a few W112 Coupes before but never the top of the range 300SE. The Coupe and the Cabriolet were the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz luxury of the period. It was mechanically sophisticated with the M189 Big-Block inline 6 and a score of luxury features like a supple air suspension. The interior was graced with leather and a choice of woods and the dash was treated to sporty round gauges instead of the plebian vertical thermometer in the Fintail sedan. This is another nice 911 Coupe in Bahia Red with black vinyl interior. It is in Missouri and that is the “show me” state. We would like nothing more than to have the seller show us this one. It is a 2.4 CIS late model 911 and that is one of our favorites. We can’t argue that Bahia Red is a nice color either. It was stored for 10 years until the current owner bought it in 2009. He recommissioned it with a marque specialist so it is in good running order. Read More

It seems that the collector car world has provided us with so many ways to participate in our hobby with all sorts of rare and unique vehicles. Rallies, tour and vintage racing plus concours events make up the majority of pastimes. You can go mainstream and find a nice Jaguar, Mercedes, Lancia or even an American collectible. The Vignale Gamine is a small, Fiat powered car produced by Carozzeria Vignale from 1967 to 1971. Specifically, the Gamine was based on the Fiat Nuova 500. Unlike the 500, however, the Gamine was a 2-seater roadster. Styling was by Alfredo Vignale although many people thought the Gamine is related in design to the Fiat 508 Balila. It was powered by a 2-cylinder, air-cooled engine of 500 cc producing 21.2 hp with a top speed of 60 mph. The Gamine was Alfredo Vignale’s baby project, but while the design was fairly cute, the performance was lackluster. The high price plus mediocre handling meant that the Gamine never sold very well. In fact, the slow sales drove Carrozzeria Vignale out of business, forcing Alfredo Vignale to sell his production line to De Tomaso. Read More

There aren’t that many choices if you want an alternative to a vintage Triumph or MGB. You could consider a Jensen-Healey but maybe you ought to re-think that. Maybe you should push outside of the box and look for a well-priced Lotus? The tiny Lotus Elan, remains a benchmark for handling. With its pop-up headlights, curved windshield, and roll-up windows, it was a symbol of Swinging London, immortalized in The Avengers television series. The Elan was built with a backbone frame and a fiberglass body, and had four-wheel independent suspension. Its Ford 1600-cc four-cylinder engine developed 105 hp and featured Lotus’s own twin-cam head, like the Lotus Cortina. Weighing only 1,420 pounds, early cars could do 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds, with the quarter-mile in 15.7 seconds at 87 mph. Read More
