Two tops and a transplant: ’60 Porsche 356 Super 90
We don’t need to talk too much about what a 356 is so we can get right to this one. First, it is an auction with the 1st bid set to be $75,000. They got that bid so the race is on. It is a very original car that was born silver with blue vinyl interior. The interior is original and the paint is newer in the original color. We like the navy blue Haartz canvas roof. This 356 also came with a rare hardtop in matching silver. That is a nice thing to have although it might prove to be useless and never seen in public. There is a complete set of paperwork that goes along with the car. Since 2008, it has gone only 2200 miles. Now here is the interesting part. The original owner wanted a Super 90 Cabriolet but it was impossible to find back in 1960. The clever buyer decided to purchase a Super 90 Coupe along with a regular old Cabriolet. He then instructed the dealer to swap drivetrains so he wound up with the car he wanted. Don’t know what happened to the Coupe but frankly, we’ve never heard of that strategy. Therefore, the car’s Certificate of Authenticity won’t match those all important numbers. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great Cabriolet and if we were in the market, we wouldn’t walk away from it. Unless you buy cars based on investment potential, you’ll have just as much fun with this one as any others on the market. Another silver/blue Cabriolet with a hardtop? Try finding one.
