Patriotic Moggie: ’60 Morgan 4/4 Roadster
The 4/4 version of the classic Morgan roadster was or is powered by a Ford 100e, 1,172 cc, 36hp side-valve engine and a 3-speed manual transmission. But the previous owner came to the rescue by professionally installing an MGA, 1,500 cc, 78 hp, OHV engine with a MG 4-speed gear box. Why they couldn’t wait for an available TR-4 drivetrain, we’ll never know. This is a Series II chassis introduced in 1955. You can’t really tell these apart from the cars Morgan is building today. Well not exactly. These are very simple cars with everything electrical and mechanical within easy reach. The seller tells us the Moggie is well cared for with recent special attention given to the braking system. During the restoration it seems the lovely ivory colored gauges gave way to newer Smith gauges from a later model or perhaps the donor MGA. We would revert back to those beautiful original Smiths. Carpeting in an early Morgan is just senseless and looks terribly out of character. We would remove and replace with the rubber mats that were original equipment. Charles Morgan will sleep better. Other than that, this is probably going to be a bargain in the British sports car world. Click here for the eBay auction.
