Desert stormer: ’86 Porsche 944 Turbo
We have a real fondness for a nice Porsche 944. Trouble is you rarely get to see one that is well cared for or hasn’t been tracked to death. Enthusiasts do like to track these because they are so darn good at being tracked. The handling is very predictable and the power, particularly with the Turbo, is very satisfying. In 1986, Car and Driver selected the Porsche 944 as one of their 10 Best. We quote C&D, “a stretch of your right leg will carry you to 157 mph, and the only activities that are more entertaining than driving this car demand a live partner.” Enough said. However if you read a little further, you’ll see they actually prefer the non-Turbo for some throttle response reasons. We like the 157 mph part more. Now this one is in a great color called Kalahari (that’s a desert) Metallic with matching Fuchs wheels and a spotless Coco brown interior. Not sure if there is leather in there but we believe the seat faces are in fact, leather. This is a 2-owner car and everything is intact including all of the paperwork, tool kit and spare keys. The seller states it has been in a climate controlled environment for the past 10 years and it looks it. The 944 Turbo comes with A/C that works, a 5-speed, cruise control, power front seats and headlight washers. With a scant 70,400 miles and service records, we think this will be the bargain daily driver sale of the century. Hagerty has a range of $13,000 to $24,000 from average drivers to really nice examples. This one might just fall into the higher end of the range. Click here for the eBay auction.
