Overlooked, with air miles: ’93 Cadillac Allante
In the 1990s, Cadillac was trying to turn the tide after being marginalized for years. At one time it was among the most respected brands in the world. It seemed all was lost. Halo cars are a common practice for Detroit marketers to try to reestablish a beachhead and start the long road to redemption. The Allante was Cadillac’s answer. The car was produced in small numbers and was unique in several ways. The bodies were designed and manufactured by Pininfarina in Italy, then flown to Detroit for final assembly – the Cadillac Air Bridge or something like that. It was a bit anemic to start with – mild power ratings trying to overcome the Allante’s 3,720-pound curb weight. Plus the front-wheel-drive configuration and automatic transmission made the car more suited for comfortable highway cruising. Yet it did offer state-of-the-art technology for Cadillac, with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, Macpherson strut suspension, a digital dashboard, and a Bose stereo. The most significant improvement to the Allante came in 1993 when it received the 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 engine and a hefty 295 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. Finally, enough power to warrant Halo status. But 1993 turned out to be the final year of production therefore for collectors, the 1993 models tend to be the most desirable. This 1993 Allante Convertible was sold new at McCain Cadillac in Tacoma, WA and comes with all appropriate documentation and ownership paperwork. This car currently has approx. 45,000 miles and is in impeccable like new condition. The seller says this is one of approximately 7 or 8 in this color and it came from the factory in Italy with the aluminum hard top. A recent visit to the local Cadillac dealer reveals no mechanical issues and there are no service codes showing in the onboard system. The seller is asking $24,875 and if he gets it might be a world record. But they need to sell so there might be some concessions. If it shows up at Mecum or Barrett-Jackson, the price might be more like $15,000. Needless to say this is one of the best in a great color. Contact the seller by clicking here.
