Supersport: ’89 Porsche Carrera Wide-body “Turbo-look”

1989 Porsche 911 Turbo-look

Porsche made 76,000 3.2 Carreras in Coupe, Cab and Targa. But they didn’t make a lot of Grand Prix White, M491 Option Turbo-look Coupes. The M491 option, officially called the Supersport in some markets, was commonly known as the “Turbo-look”. It was a style that resembled the 930 Turbo with wide wheel arches and the distinctive “tea tray” tail. Read More

Another Josey Wales: ’78 Porsche 911SC Outlaw

78 Porsche Outlaw

Outlaw seems an outlandish category of custom vehicles until you realize it pertains to Porsches. There isn’t a more enthusiastic cult of owners than Porsche owners. Now for a sweeping generalization – most of them are slaves to originality. By using “most” we hope not to receive thousands of hate comments. So if an owner goes off the reservation by modifying his/her Porsche, they refer to the result as an Outlaw. Clarification: it doesn’t mean if someone hangs a pair of fuzzy dice on the rear view mirror. We are talking about making it look bad. James Dean bad. Read More

Not every day: ’80 Porsche 911SC Coupe

Porsche 911SC Coupe

The Porsche 911SC is not particularly rare. They made lots of them but seemingly they are all Guards Red, Silver, Black or White. We like some of the alternative choices particularly Petrol Blue and Light Blue Metallic. Today’s Select offering comes from one of our favorite sellers and it checks all of the boxes. Some we didn’t even know had boxes. Let’s go through the list – Tan full leather interior (including dashboard), automatic A/C, headlamp washers, electric sunroof, Dansk stainless exhaust and Euro headlamps and tail lamps. Read More

Here is a solid California car, matching number, factory A/C, 1-year only side oil-fill door, with a decent interior. We know how much Porsche people hate color change no matter how awful the original color is – even togo brown cars should stay that way forever. So when Tom T. sent us this one, we had to think a bit. Price valuations on early 911s have skyrocketed. We’re talking over $60 large for #1 cars. Drivers are $40 plus. Okay, so if this one has the good bones the seller says it has and the mechanicals check out, is there room for someone to snag this one in the mid-twenties and make it right? Let’s say $15 large for a decent paint, $10 grand to get it mechanically refreshed, and a little something for interior bits. You might wind up with a nice almost #2 car with factory A/C. You won’t be upside down for too long. More pictures and seller’s info by clicking here.

Silver Bullet: ’78 Porsche 911SC Sunroof

Porsche 911SC

We debated whether to post this Porsche because it will probably be gone by the time it gets any air time. As you may know by now, and if you do not, we love Porsche Coupes over Targas and Cabriolets. We believe they are the perfect expression of the classic design of a 911. Read More
