The low-riding Lotus Elise is as extreme as a Dodge Viper, so says CNN. CNN was commenting on Hagerty’s choices for future collectibilty of contemporary cars. But we think what they meant is what a Viper does with brute force, the Elise does with lightness and precision. We don’t want to call this one a GTA clone. Well, maybe it isn’t such a bad way to describe it. Take a beautiful stepnose GT and spend a ton of over 2 years and the result is certainly better than a clone. This is an immaculate example built by Alfa specialists Roman Tucker and David Leivian. It is powered by a 2-liter engine with high-lift cam and Weber carburetors. It has many GTA-style additions like alloy wheels, door pulls, side exhaust and headers. Mostly supplied by Alfholics in the UK. It is currently fitted with a roll-cage, Sparco racing seats with harnesses and GTA Plexi-windows. Read More

We love the brainchild of Sydney Allard. He had this great idea and stuffed an American V8 into a British chassis. Okay, so he wasn’t alone in creating hybrids but they were pretty successful on the racing circuit and many were used as touring cars, particularly the K2. The J2 was a successful racer and even finished 3rd at LeMans with Allard himself at the helm. Back to the K2. They made 119 K2s and many of them came to the USA so this being a California car doesn’t surprise us. It has moved around a lot including a stint in Hawaii, Seattle and Toronto. Read More

We are going to catch some flack for this one. Our Ad Hoc advisory committee disagreed big time on this one. But it was 2 to 1 in favor of letting this one go through to the next round (American Idol is on in the background). What the visionaries saw in this one is the possibility of turning it into a really nice event car. Not a GT350 clone but something like a Monte Carlo factory rally car even though they were all notchbacks. Why pay a lot of money for a nice one when you are going that route? The dissenter says it is a repainted rat. We prefer ratty because it is temporary.

The American buyer readily accepted the ‘64 Pontiac’s’ new, refined design. Pontiac solidly held 3rd place in the sales race. If this was an ordinary Catalina Sport Coupe, you might not be seeing it here on Mint. But it isn’t. Besides it being an unrestored, matching number, 79,000 mile car with only one quality repaint, it has a 389 with 3-deuces and a 4-speed. You can throw in a bench seat to make it even more special. If we didn’t decide on a Fintail Mercedes for our rally car project we would have secured a 2-door 122S, 4-speed car like today’s find. If we did we, we wouldn’t have bought this example. It is just too nice. Perhaps it is too good to be true. That’s because maybe it isn’t! Read More
