SOLD!! – Classy Driver: ’62 Lancia Flaminia Coupe

Lanc frWe really like this car. Not because it is the most beautiful or rare but because it is so well engineered. And it is rather rare so you won’t see yourself coming and going. Sean Sheridan, our senior Ferrari technician, has worked on this car. One might say you can have a similar driving experience in this Flaminia Coupe as you would in an early Ferrari road car albeit with less power (but a lot less money). Lancia InteriorThis offering has been turned into a nice driver quality car that with a little more effort, could be even more presentable cosmetically. The paint is “okay” and the chrome could be brighter but the interior looks nice as is. Contact us for more information and pricing should be in the mid-20s. For more photos click here.Lancia

Coming Soon: Lancia Flaminia Coupe and a Rare Fiat OSCA 1500 Spider

Screen Shot 2015-01-09 at 7.22.54 PMWe know where they are and what condition they are in. What we need to confirm are the asking prices. The Lancia is a late ’50s example in Slate Gray with dark red leather interior. It is in good “driver condition” but needs a bit more to be totally dialed in. Screen Shot 2015-01-09 at 7.24.12 PMThe Fiat 1500 OSCA Spider is a rare bird. It is a real example and not just a transplanted motor. This one is a black-plate California car and is very complete including the Nardi wheel, special gauges and 15″ rims, but it needs a restoration. Contact me directly if either one interests you. We should have pictures on Monday when the snow clears!

Sky Blue: ’78 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

IMG_6879The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the few 4-wheel drive trucks coveted by collectors. Patterned after the Jeep and Land Rover 4-wheelers, the Land Cruiser proved that Toyota could produce a tough multi-purpose platform and not just econoboxes. In production for a quarter century, the FJ became the “go to” vehicle in remote areas of the world. In standard form, they are capable of climbing mountains, crossing deserts, and, well, doing just about the impossible. Read More

It has been awhile…

The ShopWe moved our office to Auto Turismo Sport almost a year ago. It is a great shop run by Steve Mastroianni and has been around since ’68. Because I am there almost daily, I have been able to devote some time to the shop and that benefits both me and Steve. I know more now after these 10 months have gone by than I knew before. In addition to Steve and the entire crew at ATS, I have come to know some astute collectors, and others who make their living through the classic car “hobby”. I always have trouble referring to it as a hobby, hence the quotes. It is big business to some and just fun for others: and unfortunately, extremely frustrating for many. By the way, that is Sean Sheridan resurrecting a Miura that has been asleep for 14 years. Now that was a fun test drive experience! Read More

SOLD!Caravelle/Floride Update: Ours is $29,900

Renault CaravelleOne of our readers thinks the seller may be off base on our featured listing from last week. So we did a little research and came up with a comp. Truth to tell, there are a few details that appear to be different from our offering and the car from SCM. Perhaps a modification during the restoration?Screen shot 2014-08-28 at 10.30.16 AM

Drive it: ’67 Ferrari 330GTC

330GTC fr

The 330/365 GTC is on almost every Ferraristi’s list of the one of most beautiful production Ferraris ever. It’s taught lines and muscular looks are the stuff dreams are made of. According to the Ferrari Market Letter, 597 of the 330s were built between ’66 and ’68. The V-12 boasts 300 hp nestled in a chassis similar to the 275 GTB. Today’s 330 GTC is the kind of Ferrari you want to have around. We know this car very well and have had a chance to drive it on occasion. It is very well sorted, cosmetically appealing and a kick to drive. The kind of condition that allows you to drive the car frequently without fear of getting a nick here or there. It is originally Silver with black leather/red carpets and equipped with factory A/C and power windows. Read More

A Mint Exclusive: ’62 BMW 700 Cabriolet

BMW 700 Fr

We featured a rare 700 Cabriolet a few months ago and a nearly identical twin has popped onto the market and ours exclusively.

The 700 is one of several models credited with having rescued BMW from being swallowed up by Mercedes-Benz. When production ended, over 188,000 had been produced, and that level of commercial success enabled the company, supported by a major shareholder named Herbert Quandt, to block the threatened take-over. The cutesy styling was by Giovanni Michelotti – with a little resemblance to the Triumph Herald. A coupé and a cabriolet like today’s featured car, were also produced, with bodies made by Karosserie Baur of Stuttgart.  Read More

Sold, Sold, Sold! Exclusive: ’83 Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbo with 4,100 miles

front

One of our Mint readers snapped this one up in a hurry. Congrats to Buyer. It is a spectacular car. One likely we’ll never see again.

Yup. You read it correctly it has only 4,100 original miles and it is spectacular. I drove it and it even smells like new. I am sure that if you took a nice example with maybe 150,000 miles and sent it to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center it would cost you about $100,000 to make it this nice. That is not a shot at the Classic Center by the way. They deserve whatever they get. What makes this car even more special (if that is possible), is the color and trim. It is a very desirable Anthracite Gray Metallic with tan M-B Tex interior.

Fewer listings…but better?

Since we’ve moved into our office at Auto Turismo Sport we find ourselves busier than ever. ATS has been in business since ’68 and many of their clients have been with them from the start. And what a diverse client list. photo-1-565x423There is a long-term MGTD owner who knows he has to sell but can’t bring himself to let it go, a well-known author who treasures the ’62 TR3 that he bought new and then there are the multi car folks. Not so much collectors because they drive the heck out their cars. In fact one client drove his ’57 Maserati 200si in the rain to ATS for a “nut & bolt” (race prep). How cool is that.

Meeting all of these clients allows us to make some important connections that will lead to more and more extraordinary listings. So our Mint2Me business model has morphed into something different from intended. We are no longer a daily that posts cars that interest us and our readers (one of our favorites, BaT, posts a ton of stuff lately). We will be more selective. That does not mean we won’t feature your car when you find the nerve to part with it. On the contrary. If it makes it on Mint, it will be in front of readers with the resource to buy. We welcome your comments as usual.
