Who cares isn’t really a question but a statement. This cool Stingray Convertible has a lot going for it but what it doesn’t have is the original engine. Therefore, this is a classic Stingray that you can buy right and enjoy but not have the collector value of some others. If you are a smart buyer who just wants to get out there and wail on it, this is for you. Let your stock portfolio do the appreciation and leave the garage for playtime.

We typically pass on a listing submitted if the photos are really crappy. We made an exception here. These Mercedes Coupes are one of the longest running Mercedes models in the company’s history. R107s began as 350SLs, then 450SLs, a Euro-500SL, then 380SLs and finally the 560SL. The 560SL was one of the best and collectors are snapping up good, low mileage 560SLs when they come available. They only produced 8,251 cars in 1989. Today’s featured car is Light Ivory with Dark Brown leather. The hard top comes with it as does the top carrier. Apparently it hasn’t seen much use either. The 560SL has accumulated only 57,000 miles and that makes this one very interesting. Read More

Who doesn’t love an early Beetle. It is a little easier to determine the early cars by the size and shape of the rear windows. VW made a big deal about promoting all of the changes or improvements in a Beetle from year to year and most of them you couldn’t see with the naked eye. What we have today is an early 1955 oval with rare Ultra Maroon color. This is a body-off restoration, and the seller says to top-notch quality. Read More

Spring is just around the corner. It must be a very long corner because it just doesn’t feel like it will ever come. When it does arrive, you’ll need a good, classic wood boat with an outboard motor. Nothing fancy but it has to be wood. We don’t usually go “marine” on Mint but this one seemed compelling and the $5,500 price sounds good. This is a 1950s Sportscraft mahogany speedboat that has just had all of the wood professionally restored. Read More

We featured a very original MG Midget MK I earlier in the week so we thought this one would be an interesting contrast. It is totally restored to better than new condition and sports a fresh 1275cc engine to boot! The Midget is represented by one of the top Bug Eye shops in the country and they have seen a fair amount of Sprites and Midgets in their business. The photos certainly give you a good indication of the amount of work that went into this one. If Elvis owned a Midget, we are confident it would look something like this one. Read More

This is a 930S Cabriolet and that is special all by itself. That means it is a Turbo and they didn’t make that many Turbo Cabs. But this one has the Flachbau option (M505) available through the Sonderwunschprogramm. We could be nasty and not tell you what that means but we are friends so here it is. Sonderwunschprogramm means Special Wishes Program. That is where your order goes when you specify something special like a Humidor or paint to match your lipstick. Read More

The Holy Grail of Lancia Fulvia lovers is the Series One 1.6HF, otherwise known as the Fanalone. It was the first Fulvia with the 1584cc version of the V4. It had a new block, a new head, a new crankshaft and special 42mm sidedraught Solexes. It also had the first Fulvia five-speed gearbox. This was the base for the most successful Fulvia rally cars. Lancia continued to use them right up to 1974 when the Stratos took over. Fanalones are rare and very valuable but creating a replica eligible for historic rallies, is not too hard. Read More

We love prototype and project code names. The TR4 was referred to as the Zest so it shouldn’t surprise you that the Morris small car prototype was called the Mosquito. Thankfully, the brainchild of Sir Alec Issigonis was given the proper English name – Minor. It is often referred to as the British Beetle. They sold over a million of them worldwide. Read More

You don’t see VW Karmann Ghias with only a 2 owner history. The first owner had the from new until 2009. That’s loyalty. It it has been refinished in the original color and the second owner has continued improving the Karmann Ghia and making it fully roadworthy. Unfortunately, the original engine was replaced by a newer 1600cc engine that we are told runs very well. Read More

We’ve been enjoying our ride back to Connecticut in our new project car – a ’94 M-B SL500. It has performed flawlessly so far attaining 23.75 mpg on the last tank. Not too shabby for a 335 hp V8. 
Its old news now but the winner of the Amelia Island Concours is a Horch 853 owned by Bob & Anne Brockton Lee from Sparks, Nevada. The Concours de Sport Award went to one of our favorites, a ’58 Scarab owned by Miles Collier. It appears that almost every classic car ad encourages prospective buyers to buy now or pay some outrageous amount of money in the next few months. That does not mean that the cars aren’t worthy of consideration like today’s silver 911T. It is just a bit misleading that ALL early 911s will be worth $200,000. Nothing gets our attention more than an well-sorted GTV 2000 in blue/tan. Add Panasports, bumper delete and a lowered stance and we are all in. We’ve been on the road for a few weeks but we did see this one in person when it first arrived at our go-to shop, Auto Turismo Sport. It sounds great, like a fuel injected Alfa should. So many GTVs get the Weber conversion and that isn’t a bad thing. But we like sticking with the original SPICA system. Read More

The listing tells us that the little mouse would be eligible for the Mille Miglia. We think that was true back in the early days of the new Mille but we believe the rules have changed and it must be a veteran of the original race. That doesn’t mean this one isn’t an amazing survivor. It is in wonderful condition sporting mostly original paint and interior. It has a jack and tools, a new set of proper period correct tires, an original owners manual, and directional semaphores or more accurately called trafficators. Read More

When we first spotted this one we thought only a crazy person would undertake restoring this one. That is probably true but that crazy person will have one special car after it is done. There are a bunch of assumptions with this one. It is an interesting shade of green but we don’t know if it is original to the car. There is an oral history that the Royal Family of Thailand owned the Jaguar and used it on formal occasions. Read More

The Mercedes-Benz Fintail sedan is not a thing of beauty. But they are rugged and impeccably built and just right for customization. A fully restored to original Finnie may be considered a little boring but a hot rally car, like ours, BaT’s and Classic Motorsports Finnie, are really fun. This one is being sold at a good price, $4,900, and can probably be had for less. The body looks solid as a California car should (it is 5 miles from Disneyland) but the interior is pretty much toast. The Classic Motorsports car was afflicted in the same way and they just bought a donor parts car with a better interior and swapped it out. You will be one step ahead of theirs (maybe more) because their car had some serious rust issues. It already has the Stage 1 Rally Tune-up (no wheel covers). Read More
